For if nature is an origin and principle of change, then a simple nature will be the origin and principle of a simple motion, and [the motion] will be simple and single in the fundamental sense. 69 With other [bodies], in contrast, where the proximate subject is no longer simple, but already a kind of body and compound – for every body is compound in this way70 – the form in these cases will be more complex and more advanced as well,71 as will their nature. This, too, makes sense. For the form in the underlying matter also makes a contribution to the form of [the compound body],72 and all the more so if there is not just one body underlying it [but many], as is necessarily the case with natural compound bodies.
